There is Power in Unity

Author:  Minister Dwight Cephas

I’m excited as we move towards year end.  Because as a church, we have accomplished so much in so little time, in moving towards the fulfilling of the vision that God has set before us.  But what I have come to understand and to realize is that we cannot accomplish anything for him without unity.

So, in keeping with this big idea, of unity.  I want you to meet me, in the book of Ephesian, Chapter Four and allow me to read a few verses, as we consider God’s word today. We will read the first six verses, which reads on this wise.

For just a few moments, I want to talk from the subject, there is Power in Unity, there is Power in Unity.

It has been said that a single snowflake is delicate, fragile, and is one of the weakest things on Earth. Yet, that single snowflake, that can be broken so easily, but, when it unites with other snowflakes it’s entirely a different story. That small single, insignificant snowflake when united with other can shut down an entire City.

When united with others, it can shut down airports, when united with others it can shut down freeways, there is power in unity.  Hydrogen, the element of hydrogen, is said to be highly flammable and combustible.

In other words, it can catch fire and explode without a moment’s notice, and yet when the element of hydrogen unites with oxygen it becomes H2o, which than becomes water, and this thing that was once considered dangerous, now cools the Earth, fills the oceans, fuels our bodies and waters our crops.

It was in the year 1992, when we also found out that there is power in unity.  When the Olympic committee decided that professional NBA players would now be allowed to play on the Olympic Team, because of their discission, it was then, that these NBA stars were allowed to play on the same team and would call this team “The Dream Team”.  Because they have never seen this type of collection of talent, assembled in one place, why because there is power in unity.

You don’t have to look far, you can look in relationships, you can look in science, you can look in nature, you can look in business, you can look anywhere.  And there you will find, sometimes for good, sometimes for evil, this undeniable truth, there is power in unity.

What one can do as a member, cannot begin to match, what we can do, when we come together as a congregation. Perhaps that’s why unity is such an essential and core tenet of the New Testament. When you read the entire New Testament, you cannot get pass this idea that we are called to be unified, we are called to understand that unity is essential to Christ’s calling on our lives.
